My Personal Turning Point

Before I opened Rejuvenate Hormone and Weight Loss Center, I spent 8 years watching my weight steadily increase. I wasn’t sure if I was doing the right things anymore. I just knew I didn’t feel like me. The weight gain left me exhausted, frustrated, and, at times, depressed.

Even as a hormone expert in Scottsdale, I had to take a step back and reassess. So I optimized my hormones, adjusted my metabolism, and most importantly, changed my timing.

Over the course of a year, I lost 70 pounds. And I’ve kept it off. Not just with medication like Tirzepatide — but by working with my body, not against it.

One of the biggest shifts? I stopped eating dinner late at night.

Why Timing Matters: The Liver and Your Body Clock

Just like your brain, your liver has a circadian rhythm. During the day, your liver is in “processing mode”—breaking down nutrients, storing energy, and aiding digestion. At night, it’s supposed to switch into “repair mode” — detoxifying, balancing hormones, and helping your body reset.

When you eat late, especially high-calorie or high-carb meals, your liver is forced to abandon its night shift. That disrupts your metabolic rhythm and leads to:

  • Increased belly (visceral) fat
  • Insulin resistance
  • Poor blood sugar control
  • Fatigue and poor sleep
  • Increased inflammation

The Research: Johns Hopkins & DLMO

Johns Hopkins researchers compared people eating dinner at 6 p.m. versus 10 p.m. Those who ate late had higher blood sugar, lower fat-burning efficiency, and more fat storage — even with the same meals.

They also explored a concept called DLMODim-Light Melatonin Onset. This is the moment when your body starts releasing melatonin, signaling your biological night. Eating after this point raises blood sugar by up to 11%, because your body is no longer primed for digestion.

Think of DLMO as your body’s internal “bedtime bell.” When melatonin rises, your metabolism begins to wind down. Here’s what that looks like:

Day Mode vs. Night Mode: Your Liver at Work

During the day, your liver is busy breaking things down and storing energy. At night, it’s meant to clean up, repair, and regulate.

If you’re constantly asking your liver to process food late into the night, it never gets a chance to perform its essential night shift functions.

Timing on the Clock: Why 6 PM Beats 10 PM

Eating at 4–6 p.m. aligns with your body’s natural rhythm and allows your liver to shift into detox and repair mode. Pushing meals to 9 or 10 p.m. forces your body to digest when it should be healing. That one shift — moving dinner earlier — can transform your metabolism.

The Clock Doesn’t Lie

I used to eat dinner at 8 or 9 p.m. because of our family schedule. It felt normal. But once I shifted dinner to around 4 or 5 p.m., I noticed a huge change — not just in weight loss, but in my energy, sleep, and cravings.

Yes, Tirzepatide helped. But what kept the weight off? Getting my body back in rhythm.
